Angel Kanchev University of Ruse is a leading public higher education institution, established on November 12, 1945, in the city of Ruse, Bulgaria. Initially founded as a Higher Technical School, today it stands as a modern educational and research center, offering over 50 bachelor's and 80 master's programs across 7 of the 9 fields of higher education. The university hosts approximately 10,000 students, including over 200 doctoral candidates.
The university comprises eight faculties: Agrarian and Industrial, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation, Transport, Business and Management, Natural Sciences and Education, Law, and Public Health and Health Care. Additionally, it has branches in Silistra, Razgrad, and Vidin, offering programs in pedagogy, engineering, and natural sciences.
Its facilities include modern academic buildings, laboratories, and the multifunctional "Kanev Center" with a conference hall seating 800. Students have access to over 2,100 accommodations across six dormitories and a student canteen, as well as opportunities for sports and cultural activities.
The University of Ruse maintains a strong international presence, partnering with over 200 universities in more than 30 countries. It is a member of the European University Association and the Danube Rectors' Conference, actively participating in programs like Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020. In 2018, it received institutional accreditation with a score of 9.44 out of 10, placing it among Bulgaria's top universities.
